Ever wondered if IBS symptoms can be affected by your 24 hour clock, or by eating?

June 10, 2015 by Joan Breakey   Blog

Those with Irritable Bowel Syndrome [IBS] report that their gut symptoms are often connected to when they wake and when they start meals. They may report that their gut wakes up when they wake up, or their bladder may wake first and their gut a usual time later. Then they may report that they just have to have one mouthful of food when they begin a meal and they get gut urgency! Or they may report that after they have had what for them is a large meal their gut activity at the other end gets moving. For many it is that lovely full mug of a hot latte with friends that does the trick. There is much that is still a mystery about how the gut functions in IBS people. Some report that there are particular times that gut urgency happens, perhaps consistently late morning or late afternoon. Where they have gut looseness the number of these happenings increases, so it includes all these responses, and more! The intensity of the discomfort with the gut urgency varies with different people. IBS is not the same for everybody. This is all separate from bloating. Where a low chemical diet is trialed it can reduce all of these symptoms in food sensitive people, still in varying amounts in different people. See Are You Food Sensitive? for information on the whole diet detective process.
