Comment from Patty Woods I too have discovered over the last two years or so that I have become intolerant to tyramine. I am a 60 year old female. It all seemed to start very suddenly, but I have for the last 15 years or so had other food sensitivities. I really suspect my over-use of Zyrtec. Cannot prove it and my doctors will not agree with me, but I used Zyrtec for about 15 years for allergies, and at one point every time I tried to stop taking it I had worse issues, I would break out in … [Read more...]
You are a foodie when investigating diet
In fact being a foodie helps you manage your diet! Yes, you have your lists of allowed foods but even in those lists there are words such as “fresh” or “mild” or “just ripe”. How do you decide what they mean? I have listened to food sensitive people describe how they feel about food for years. They say things like “I wouldn’t use cake mixes, the smell would give you a headache!” or “The food in the fridge is off!” or children say “I won’t eat that: it smells yuk!”. They are showing us that … [Read more...]
High BP with perfumes
Each food-sensitive person is unusual, but some are very unusual! Shalu’s blood pressure rises with exposure to perfumes! She writes “So it's not me alone, who is battling this blood pressure problem. Doctors say it's just your stress which raises BP suddenly. But having BP of 118/70 with medicines, and spiking to level 190/100, only because of perfumes, and odour sensitivity is my problem. I got this problem after having my baby. Strange!!! I never had any allergy.” My comment: No Shula, … [Read more...]

Low chemical food choices on a cruise
On cruise ships I kept hoping the soup cooks do not talk to the dessert cooks, or to the fish cooks either! The soups available on a cruise have been made in traditional ways, as there are lots of fresh bones from meat dishes to make delicious fresh-tasting stock used for meat and vegetable soups, so most of the soups can be eaten daily on a low chemical diet, low in dairy and wheat as well. As usual on a cruise it is frustrating to see the wide variety of food available but not be able to … [Read more...]
What if aspirin helps with migraine?
If aspirin helps with a migraine, should salicylates in food be eliminated in the diet trial? Someone may report that having an aspirin helps reduce a migraine, especially if they judge the time as the migraine is coming on. If this does, in fact, solve the migraine then there is no need to use diet. But most often it does not, and taking aspirin does not help you know what is causing the migraine. How can we think through what to do? If someone drinks too much alcohol they have a … [Read more...]
Getting to your own baseline diet is hard
There is a lot of talk about testing foods, but how do you get to an intake of foods that you can feel are safe to test from? If you are very sensitive it is hard! You are right it is about threshold. That reminds you of the great cartoon of a person feeling “fragile” and another feeling “robust” at the beginning of Chapter 3 in Tolerating Troublesome Foods: “Tolerance can change for many reasons”. This book can be a great support to you as you work out what matters to you. All the … [Read more...]
