September 18, 2015 by Joan Breakey   Article

Many food sensitive people have more than one symptom, and their immediate family may have the same or other symptoms. Following is a list of the many symptoms grouped in different ways of thinking about them:- Food sensitivity symptoms may be two types of physical symptoms. Allergy … [Read more...]

August 11, 2015 by Joan Breakey   Blog

People who eat spicy foods nearly every day reduce their risk of death by 14 per cent compared with those who consume spicy foods less than once a week. Does it mean that reducing spices, additives, high amine foods, and MSG, as many food sensitive people do, may not be a good thing? The report, from Harvard University, published in the BMJ in August continues ‘Regular spicy food eaters are also less likely to die from cancer, heart, and respiratory diseases than those who eat spicy foods … [Read more...]

Does salicylate amount differ in different pears? New book of recipes.

July 27, 2015 by Joan Breakey   Blog

We know that tangy Granny Smith apples cause many more reactions than the many mild apple varieties, but what about pears?  At present Woolworths are promoting pears by giving a free copy of the beautiful book “Australian Pears”, Volume 3 when you buy a kilogram.  Get yourself one! In the front pages it contains pictures of all varieties with notes on their taste and how to best use them.   I strongly recommend you use this to note which pears you like more and whether you feel there is any … [Read more...]

Very high blood pressure and food chemical sensitivity

July 25, 2015 by Joan Breakey   Blog

Question Eighteen months ago I went through issues with very high blood pressure. I was put on BP meds, but my symptoms worsened. I was hospitalized three times in the space of six weeks with blood pressure at 218/115. Once the blood pressure came down I was sent home and nobody could explain it. In hospital I ate very little. In between I spent days in bed with chest pain, back and neck pain and breathlessness, brain fog and headaches or migraines. I could barely function. I had every scan and … [Read more...]

What is the fastest way for you to get to your own best diet?

July 21, 2015 by Joan Breakey   Article

I am now celebrating forty years of working with food sensitivity. What are the key ideas I have found? A main finding is that the diet that is best for you can be worked out by you personally, even though you may start with a diet thought to help with your main symptom. How is this done? You have your own list of foods you know or suspect as causing reactions. You can add the “layer underneath”: lists of foods outlined in my book Are You Food Sensitive? preferably also with the help of an … [Read more...]

A dedicated mum had to deal with not declared additives

July 1, 2015 by Joan Breakey   Blog

Alternative health supplements should not say their products have no artificial additives and then pack them with very strong natural flavours and salicylates. A dedicated mum had to deal with the reaction this caused. Hi Joan, we have been continuing to manage diet for our two delightful but challenging boys with ADHD-type symptoms.  Discovering mistakes along the way and working to sort through them. We have come across some oppositional type behaviour due to inconsistencies with our … [Read more...]
